Pisang Goreng (Indonesian Fried Bananas)

Delight in the sweet and crispy goodness of Pisang Goreng, a beloved Indonesian snack that transforms simple bananas into a golden, crunchy treat. Perfect for breakfast, tea time, or as a dessert, this easy-to-make recipe brings a taste of Southeast Asia right to your kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe but firm bananas (preferably plantains or cavendish)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons rice flour (optional, for extra crispiness)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup water (adjust for batter consistency)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Batter

In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rice flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder. Gradually add water while stirring until you get a smooth, slightly thick batter.

  2. Prepare the Bananas

Peel the bananas and cut them in half lengthwise, or into thick slices if preferred.

  3. Coat the Bananas

Dip each banana piece into the batter, ensuring it is fully coated.

  4. Fry

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the battered bananas. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, about 2–3 minutes per side. Avoid overcrowding the pan.

  5. Drain

Remove the fried bananas and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.

  6. Serve

Serve Pisang Goreng warm, either plain or with a drizzle of honey, chocolate sauce, or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for extra indulgence.

Serving

Enjoy Pisang Goreng as a snack with tea or coffee, or as a delightful dessert. Its crispy exterior and sweet, soft interior make it a favorite treat for all ages.
