Perfect for hot days or as a delightful treat after a meal, Halo-Halo offers a unique mix of textures and tastes in every spoonful.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup sweetened red beans
  • 1/4 cup sweetened garbanzo beans
  • 1/4 cup sweetened jackfruit, sliced
  • 1/4 cup sweetened banana, sliced
  • 1/4 cup nata de coco (coconut gel)
  • 1/4 cup kaong (sugar palm fruit)
  • 1/4 cup sweetened macapuno (coconut strips)
  • 1/2 cup crushed or shaved ice
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk or coconut milk
  • 1 scoop ube (purple yam) ice cream
  • Leche flan, optional, cut into small cubes
  • Pinipig (toasted rice flakes), optional, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Ingredients

Arrange all the sweetened beans, fruits, and jellies in separate bowls. Cut any larger fruits or flans into bite-sized pieces for easy layering.

  2. Assemble the Halo-Halo

In a tall glass or dessert bowl, layer a portion of each ingredient starting with the beans, then fruits, nata de coco, kaong, and macapuno.

  3. Add Ice and Milk

Top the layered ingredients with crushed or shaved ice, filling the glass almost to the rim. Pour evaporated milk or coconut milk over the ice until it begins to soak through the layers.

  4. Top with Ice Cream

Add a generous scoop of ube ice cream on top of the shaved ice. If using leche flan, place cubes around the ice cream.

  5. Garnish

Sprinkle pinipig over the top for added texture and a slight crunch.

  6. Serve

Serve Halo-Halo immediately with a long spoon to mix the layers as you eat. Each bite combines creamy, sweet, and icy flavors for a refreshing and indulgent dessert experience.

Serving

Halo-Halo is not just a dessert - it’s a celebration of colors, textures, and tropical flavors that embodies the festive spirit of Filipino cuisine.
