Mango Sticky Rice (Thai Dessert)

Experience the sweet and creamy flavors of Thailand with Mango Sticky Rice, a beloved dessert that combines tender, sticky rice with ripe mango and a luscious coconut sauce. Perfect for a refreshing treat or a special occasion, this dish delights with its harmony of textures and tropical taste.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup glutinous (sticky) rice
  • 1 1/2 cups coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ripe mangoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds or mung beans (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sticky Rice

Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 1 hour, then drain. Steam the rice over boiling water for 20–25 minutes until tender and sticky.

  2. Make the Coconut Sauce

While the rice is steaming, combine coconut milk, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Do not let it boil.

  3. Mix Rice with Coconut Milk

Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and pour about two-thirds of the coconut sauce over it. Stir gently to combine and let it sit for 15–20 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  4. Serve

Place a portion of sticky rice on a serving plate, arrange mango slices on the side, and drizzle with the remaining coconut sauce. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds or mung beans if desired.

Enjoy Mango Sticky Rice slightly warm or at room temperature. This dessert pairs beautifully with a cup of jasmine tea or as a sweet finish to a Thai-inspired meal. Mango Sticky Rice is a perfect balance of creamy, sweet, and fruity flavors, offering a taste of Thailand in every bite.
