- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Topping
- 250 g (about 1/2 lb) ground lamb or beef

- 1 tomato, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons finely chopped parsley
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For Serving
- Fresh parsley
- Sliced onions
- Lemon wedges
Instructions
Prepare the Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
- Gradually add warm water and olive oil, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover and let the dough rest for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Prepare the Topping
- In a bowl, combine ground meat, onion, tomato, bell pepper, tomato paste, parsley, and all the spices.
- Add olive oil and mix thoroughly until the mixture is well combined. The consistency should be spreadable; if it’s too thick, add a tablespoon of water.
Shape the Flatbreads
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (250°C) and place a baking stone or tray inside to heat.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Roll each piece into a thin circle (about 8 inches in diameter) on a lightly floured surface.
Add the Topping
- Spread a thin layer of the meat mixture evenly over each dough circle, pressing gently to adhere.
Bake
- Transfer the Lahmacun onto the preheated tray or stone.
- Bake for 6–8 minutes, or until the edges are crisp and the topping is cooked through.
- Repeat with the remaining dough and topping.
Serve
- Serve Lahmacun hot from the oven.
- Top with fresh parsley, sliced onions, and a squeeze of lemon.
- Roll it up and enjoy immediately.
Serving
Lahmacun is best enjoyed fresh and warm. Pair it with a glass of ayran (a traditional yogurt drink) for a truly authentic Turkish experience. Whether shared with friends or enjoyed solo, Lahmacun brings a taste of the bustling streets of Istanbul right to your table.
