Tipping

Tipping is customary in Ecuador. In restaurants, around 10% is typical if a service charge is not included (a service fee may already be added to the bill). Small tips are also appreciated by hotel staff, drivers, and guides.

Ecuador uses plug types A and B (US standard). The standard voltage is 120 V with a frequency of 60 Hz.

Drinking water

Tap water is not considered safe to drink. Bottled or filtered water should be used for drinking and brushing teeth. Avoid ice unless it is confirmed to be made from purified water.

Offices typically operate Monday to Friday, from around 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Shops and markets may open on Saturdays; Sundays are often quieter.

The official language is Spanish. Indigenous languages such as Quechua are also widely spoken in certain regions.
