Argentina Travel Notes

Argentina Travel Notes

Tipping

Tipping is customary in Argentina. In restaurants, around 10% is standard and is usually left in cash even if a service charge is included. Small tips are also appreciated by hotel staff, taxi drivers, and guides.

Sockets and voltage

Argentina uses plug types C and I. The standard voltage is 220 V with a frequency of 50 Hz.

Drinking water

Tap water is generally safe to drink in major cities, including Buenos Aires. In rural areas, bottled water is often preferred.

Safety

Argentina is generally safe for travellers, but petty crime such as pickpocketing and bag snatching can occur in urban areas and tourist zones. Extra caution is advised in crowded areas and on public transport.

Body language

Handshakes are common greetings. Communication is expressive, and personal space is often closer than in some other cultures.

Business hours

Offices typically operate Monday to Friday, from around 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Shops may open late and close later in the evening, with a midday break (“siesta”) common in some regions.

Languages

The official language is Spanish. English is spoken in tourist areas but is less common outside major cities.
