Discover the fresh, vibrant flavors of Lebanese cuisine with Tabbouleh, a light and refreshing salad that celebrates the essence of parsley, bulgur, and zesty lemon. Perfect as a side dish or a healthy appetizer, Tabbouleh is a staple that brings brightness and freshness to any meal.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup fine bulgur wheat
- 1 cup boiling water
- 2 cups fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup fresh mint, finely chopped
- 4 medium tomatoes, diced
- 1 small cucumber, diced (optional)
- 4 green onions, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 lemons)
- 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
-
Prepare the Bulgur
Place the bulgur in a bowl and pour boiling water over it. Cover and let it soak for about 15–20 minutes until tender. Drain any excess water and set aside to cool.
-
Chop the Herbs and Vegetables
Finely chop the parsley, mint, tomatoes, cucumber (if using), and green onions. The key to a great Tabbouleh is uniform, small pieces that blend well together.
-
Mix the Salad
In a large bowl, combine the soaked bulgur, chopped herbs, and vegetables. Add lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Toss everything together until evenly mixed.
-
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Serve chilled as a side dish, mezze, or light lunch.
Serving
Tabbouleh pairs beautifully with grilled meats, pita bread, hummus, or as part of a larger Middle Eastern spread. Garnish with extra mint leaves or a lemon wedge for added freshness. Enjoy the zesty, herbaceous taste of Tabbouleh, a timeless salad that embodies the light and healthy spirit of Lebanese cuisine.
