Sorrel Drink Recipe

Sorrel Drink

Enjoy a refreshing and tangy beverage with this Sorrel Drink, a popular Caribbean drink made from hibiscus petals and warm spices. Perfect for festive occasions or a cooling summer refreshment, this drink offers a vibrant flavor that’s both sweet and slightly tart.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups dried sorrel (hibiscus) petals
  • 8 cups water
  • 1-2 inches fresh ginger, peeled and sliced
  • 2-3 whole cloves
  • 1-2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 cup sugar (adjust to taste)
  • Juice of 1 lime (optional)
  • Rum (optional, for an adult version)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sorrel Infusion

In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Remove from heat and add the dried sorrel petals, sliced ginger, cloves, and cinnamon sticks. Cover and let steep for at least 4 hours, or overnight for a stronger flavor.

  2. Sweeten the Drink

Strain the liquid into a large pitcher, removing all solids. Stir in sugar while the liquid is still warm until fully dissolved. Add lime juice for a bright, tangy note, if desired.

  3. Serve

Refrigerate the drink until cold. Serve over ice for a refreshing treat. For a festive adult version, add rum to taste.

Serving

Garnish with a slice of lime or a few fresh mint leaves. Sorrel Drink is perfect for holiday gatherings, summer parties, or anytime you crave a vibrant, fruity beverage that awakens the senses.
