Norway Travel Notes

Tipping

Tipping in Norway is not mandatory, as service charges are usually included in bills. However, leaving a small tip of around 5–10% or rounding up is appreciated for good service in restaurants, taxis, and cafés.

Sockets and voltage

Norway uses plug types C and F (European standard). The standard voltage is 230 V with a frequency of 50 Hz, so most European devices will work without a converter.

Safety

Norway is considered a very safe country with low crime rates. Petty theft is rare but can occur in crowded tourist areas, so basic precautions are recommended.

Body language

Handshakes are common when greeting someone. Norwegians value personal space, politeness, and calm communication. Direct eye contact is considered respectful.

Business hours

Offices typically operate Monday to Friday from about 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Shops may close earlier in smaller towns, while larger cities offer extended hours.
