Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 1 teaspoon cardamom powder
- 1 teaspoon saffron threads (optional)
- Vegetable oil for deep frying
For the Syrup
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon rose water or saffron (optional)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Dough
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, salt, and cardamom powder. Gradually add warm water and mix until a smooth, sticky batter forms. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the batter rest in a warm place for 1–2 hours, or until it doubles in size.
-
Make the Syrup
In a small saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the syrup comes to a gentle boil. Add lemon juice and simmer for 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Remove from heat and add rose water or saffron if desired.
-
Fry the Dumplings
Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. Using a spoon or your fingers, scoop small portions of the batter and carefully drop them into the hot oil. Fry until golden brown and crispy on all sides, turning occasionally. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
-
Serve
Drizzle the warm syrup over the fried dumplings or serve it on the side for dipping. Enjoy Luqaimat fresh and warm for the best flavor and texture.
