Tipping

Tipping is customary in Cyprus. In restaurants, around 5–10% is typical if a service charge is not included. Small tips are also appreciated by hotel staff, taxi drivers, and guides.

Cyprus uses plug type G (British standard). The standard voltage is 240 V with a frequency of 50 Hz.

Drinking water

Tap water is generally safe to drink, but many visitors prefer bottled water due to taste.

Safety

Cyprus is considered a safe destination for travellers. Petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur in busy tourist areas, especially in Nicosia and coastal resorts. Standard precautions are recommended.

Body language

Handshakes are common greetings. Communication is friendly and expressive, and hospitality is an important part of local culture.

Business hours

Offices typically operate Monday to Friday, from around 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Shops may close for a midday break and reopen in the afternoon. Tourist areas often have extended hours.

Languages

The official languages are Greek and Turkish. English is widely spoken, especially in tourism, business, and urban areas.
