Tipping

Tipping is customary in Bolivia. In restaurants, around 5–10% is common if a service charge is not included. Small tips are also appreciated by hotel staff, drivers, and guides.

Safety

Bolivia is generally safe for travellers, though petty crime such as pickpocketing can occur in busy areas and public transport, especially in La Paz. Standard precautions are recommended.

Handshakes are common greetings. Friendly and polite communication is appreciated, and greetings are important before beginning conversations.

Offices typically operate Monday to Friday, from around 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, often with a midday break. Shops may also open on Saturdays.

Languages

Bolivia has multiple official languages, including Spanish, Quechua, and Aymara. Spanish is the most widely used in cities and tourism.
