Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (7 g) instant yeast
- 1 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
-
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until frothy. Add the egg, melted butter, salt, and gradually mix in the flour until a soft dough forms. Knead the dough for 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rise in a warm place for 1–1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
-
Shape the Baursaki
Punch down the risen dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut the dough into small squares, diamonds, or triangles, depending on your preference.
-
Fry
Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Fry the dough pieces in batches until golden brown on all sides, about 2–3 minutes per side. Use a slotted spoon to remove them and place on paper towels to drain excess oil.
-
Serve
Serve Baursaki warm, plain or dusted with powdered sugar. They are also delicious alongside jam, honey, or tea.
