Ingredients
- 3 lbs pork ribs or chicken pieces
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup water
Instructions
-
Prepare the Meat
Rinse the meat and pat dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub the spice mixture evenly over all sides of the meat.
-
Sear the Meat
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the meat for 2–3 minutes on each side until browned. Remove from heat and set aside.
-
Slow Cook or Bake
Preheat oven to 300°F (150°C) if baking. Place meat in a baking dish or slow cooker. Mix apple cider vinegar and water, then pour over the meat. Cover with foil if baking, or close the slow cooker lid. Cook in the oven for 2.5–3 hours or in a slow cooker for 4–6 hours until meat is tender and easily pulls apart.
-
Apply Barbecue Sauce
Remove meat from oven or slow cooker. Brush generously with barbecue sauce. Optional: broil for 3–5 minutes in the oven to caramelize the sauce.
-
Serve
Serve the barbecue hot with classic sides like coleslaw, baked beans, cornbread, or grilled vegetables. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Enjoy the rich, smoky flavors of classic barbecue.
