Roti Recipe
Discover the simple, wholesome flavors of traditional Indian cuisine with Roti, a soft and versatile flatbread made from whole wheat flour. Perfect as a side for curries, vegetables, or lentils, Roti is a staple in many households and brings warmth and comfort to any meal.
Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup water (adjust as needed)
- 1 tablespoon oil or ghee (optional, for softer dough)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water, mixing until a soft dough forms. Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If desired, add oil or ghee while kneading for extra softness. Cover with a damp cloth and let it rest for at least 30 minutes.
-
Shape the Rotis
Divide the dough into small, equal-sized balls. On a lightly floured surface, roll each ball into a thin, round disc about 6–8 inches in diameter, keeping them evenly thin for uniform cooking.
-
Cook the Rotis
Heat a flat skillet or tawa over medium-high heat. Place a rolled-out roti on the hot surface and cook for 30–40 seconds until bubbles appear. Flip and cook the other side for another 30–40 seconds. Press gently with a spatula or cloth to help it puff. Flip once more if needed until light brown spots appear. Repeat with remaining dough balls.
-
Serve
Serve the Rotis warm, paired with curries, dals, or sautéed vegetables. They can also be enjoyed with butter, ghee, or chutneys for added flavor.
Serving
Experience the comforting simplicity of Roti, a versatile bread that elevates every meal. Its soft, warm texture and mild flavor make it perfect for both everyday dining and special gatherings.
