0.5 teaspoon salt
0.5 cup (0.12 L) water
For the Filling:
0.5 lb (0.23 kg) ground chicken, pork, or beef (or crumbled tofu for vegetarian momos)
1 cup (0.22 kg) finely chopped cabbage
1 cup (0.22 kg) finely chopped onions
0.5 cup (0.12 kg) grated carrots
1 tablespoon ginger, minced
1 tablespoon garlic, minced
1 teaspoon soy sauce
0.5 teaspoon sesame oil
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Step 1: Make the Dough In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Gradually add water, kneading the mixture into a smooth, elastic dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat or tofu, chopped vegetables, ginger, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to combine all the flavors.
Step 3: Assemble the Momos Divide the dough into small balls (about 1-inch in diameter). Roll each ball into a thin circle, approximately 4 inches wide. Place a small spoonful of the filling in the center of each circle. Fold the dough over the filling and pleat the edges to seal the dumpling.
Step 4: Cook the Momos For Steamed Momos: Arrange the dumplings in a steamer lined with parchment paper or cabbage leaves to prevent sticking. Steam over medium heat for 10-12 minutes until the dumplings are cooked through. For Fried Momos: Heat oil in a pan and shallow-fry the dumplings until golden brown on all sides.
Serving: Serve momos hot with a side of spicy tomato chutney or your favorite dipping sauce. They’re best enjoyed fresh and warm, making them a crowd-pleasing snack or meal.
