Lebanon Travel Notes

Tipping

Tipping is customary in Lebanon. In restaurants, around 10% is typical if a service charge is not included. It is also common to tip hotel staff, drivers, and service workers.

Sockets and voltage

Lebanon uses plug types C, D, and G. The standard voltage is 220 V with a frequency of 50 Hz.

Drinking water

Tap water is not recommended for drinking. Bottled or filtered water should be used, including for brushing teeth. Avoid ice unless you are sure it is made from purified water.

Safety

Safety conditions in Lebanon can vary due to political and economic instability. While many areas, including parts of Beirut, are accessible to tourists, it is important to monitor local advisories, avoid demonstrations, and stay informed about regional developments.

Body language

Handshakes are common greetings. In more traditional settings, interactions between men and women may be more reserved. Politeness and respectful behaviour are important.

Business hours

Offices typically operate Monday to Friday, from around 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Some businesses may open on Saturdays, while Sundays are quieter.

Languages

Lebanon has Arabic as its official language. French and English are also widely spoken, especially in business, education, and urban areas.
