Ingredients
- 1 large head of cabbage
- 1 lb (450 g) ground pork (or a mix of pork and beef)
- 1 cup cooked rice
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon paprika (optional)
- 2 cups tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 cup beef or vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
-
Prepare the Cabbage
Bring a large pot of water to boil. Remove the core from the cabbage and carefully separate the leaves. Blanch the leaves in boiling water for 2–3 minutes until softened. Drain and set aside.
-
Make the Filling
In a bowl, combine ground meat, cooked rice, chopped onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika (if using). Mix thoroughly until well combined.
-
Assemble the Rolls
Place a cabbage leaf on a flat surface and add 2–3 tablespoons of the filling near the base of the leaf. Fold in the sides and roll tightly to enclose the filling. Repeat with remaining leaves and filling.
-
Cook the Gołąbki
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Lightly brown the cabbage rolls on all sides. In a separate bowl, mix tomato sauce, tomato paste, and broth, then pour over the rolls. Cover and simmer on low heat for 45–60 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the flavors meld.
-
Serve
Serve Gołąbki warm, spooning the tomato sauce over the rolls.
