1 Onion, finely chopped

2 Tomatoes, diced

3 cloves Garlic, minced

1 tsp Fresh Ginger, grated

1 tsp Turmeric Powder

1 tsp Cumin Powder

1 tsp Coriander Powder

1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds

2 tbsp Ghee or Vegetable Oil

Salt to taste

Fresh Coriander (Cilantro) for garnish

Cook lentils in a pot with water until tender. Set aside. Rinse basmati rice and cook it separately until fluffy. In a pan, heat ghee or vegetable oil. Add mustard seeds until they pop. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and grated ginger. Sauté until golden brown. Add diced tomatoes and cook until they form a thick gravy. Season with turmeric, cumin, and coriander powder. Stir to combine. Mix in the cooked lentils and let the flavors meld. Serve Dal Bhat hot over a bed of fluffy basmati rice.

Enjoy Dal Bhat with a side of fresh coriander (cilantro) for garnish. It pairs well with Nepali pickles, yogurt, or achar.

Dal Bhat embodies the spirit of Nepal, combining the simplicity of lentils and rice with a symphony of spices, creating a comforting and nutritious meal.
