Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 medium tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons coriander seeds, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, crushed
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh mint, chopped (optional)
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons cornmeal or flour
  • Salt to taste
  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meat Mixture

In a large bowl, combine ground meat, chopped onion, tomatoes, green chilies, crushed coriander seeds, cumin seeds, red chili flakes, garam masala, ground coriander, cilantro, mint, egg, cornmeal, and salt. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  2. Shape the Kebabs

Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into flat, round patties, about 1/2 inch thick. Press gently to ensure they hold together during frying.

  3. Fry the Kebabs

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the kebabs for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  4. Serve

Serve Chapli Kebabs hot with naan, rice, or a fresh salad. Garnish with lemon wedges and extra cilantro for added freshness.

Savor the fragrant spices and crispy texture of Chapli Kebab, a dish that embodies the heart of Afghan culinary tradition. Perfect for sharing with family or enjoying as a flavorful solo meal.
