Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef or goat meat, cut into thin strips
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 scotch bonnet peppers, finely chopped (adjust for heat)
- 1 teaspoon thyme
- 1 teaspoon parsley, chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Juice of 1 lime
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil (for frying)
Instructions
-
Marinate the Meat
In a large bowl, combine the meat strips with garlic, onion, scotch bonnet peppers, thyme, parsley, cloves, paprika, salt, black pepper, lime juice, and vinegar. Mix thoroughly, ensuring the meat is well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to penetrate.
-
Cook the Tasso
Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated meat in batches, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry the meat until it’s browned and crispy on the edges, about 5–7 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
-
Serve
Serve Haitian Tasso hot, either on its own as a snack or alongside rice, beans, or fried plantains. Garnish with fresh parsley or lime wedges for extra flavor.
Serving
Haitian Tasso pairs beautifully with simple sides that balance its spice, such as Pikliz (spicy pickled vegetables), fried plantains, or steamed white rice. Its bold, smoky flavor and tender texture make it a standout dish for family gatherings or festive meals.
Enjoy the rich, spicy tradition of Haitian Tasso, a dish that brings the warmth and vibrancy of Haitian cuisine straight to your table.
