Ingredients
- 2 pounds beef, thinly sliced (or chicken, lamb, or goat)
- 1/2 cup roasted peanuts, finely ground
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- Wooden skewers, soaked in water for 30 minutes
Instructions
-
Prepare the Spice Mix
In a bowl, combine ground peanuts, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly to create a coarse, fragrant spice blend.
-
Season the Meat
Pat the meat slices dry. Brush them lightly with vegetable oil, then coat each slice generously with the spice mixture. Make sure the seasoning adheres well to the meat for maximum flavor.
-
Skewer the Meat
Thread the seasoned meat onto the soaked wooden skewers. Avoid overcrowding to ensure even cooking.
-
Grill the Suya
Preheat your grill or barbecue to medium-high heat. Grill the skewers for 8–12 minutes, turning occasionally, until the meat is cooked through and slightly charred on the edges.
-
Serve
Serve Suya hot, garnished with sliced onions, tomatoes, and fresh peppers. It can be enjoyed on its own, with flatbread, or alongside rice dishes.
Serving
Pair Suya with chilled soft drinks or palm wine for an authentic Nigerian street food experience. Its smoky, spicy, and nutty flavors are perfect for gatherings or casual meals. Suya is more than just grilled meat - it’s a celebration of bold flavors, vibrant colors, and the lively spirit of Nigerian cuisine.
