Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 lb (450 g) ground pork

0.5 lb (225 g) ground beef

1 small onion, finely chopped

1/4 cup (30 g) breadcrumbs

1/4 cup (60 ml) whole milk

1 egg

1 tsp salt

1/2 tsp pepper

1/4 tsp ground nutmeg (optional)

2 tbsp (30 g) butter for frying

For Serving:

1 lb (450 g) boiled potatoes

Gravy or mustard (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Meat Mixture: In a large bowl, combine the ground pork and beef, finely chopped onion, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Mix until everything is well combined, but avoid overmixing to keep the meatballs tender.

Shape the Frikadeller: With wet hands, form the mixture into medium-sized meatballs, about the size of a golf ball. Flatten them slightly to create an oval shape for even cooking.

Fry the Frikadeller: Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry the meatballs for 5-7 minutes on each side, until they are golden brown and cooked through. Ensure they reach an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C).

Boil the Potatoes: While the Frikadeller are frying, boil the potatoes in salted water until tender, about 20-25 minutes. Drain and keep warm.

Serving

Frikadeller are traditionally served with boiled potatoes, brown gravy, and a side of pickled red cabbage or cucumber salad. Add a spoonful of mustard on the side for an authentic touch. These meatballs are perfect for lunch or dinner, offering a hearty, comforting meal.
