Pizza Margherita

Experience the timeless flavors of Italian cuisine with Pizza Margherita, a classic dish that combines a crisp, thin crust with fresh tomato, mozzarella, and basil. Simple yet delicious, this pizza embodies the essence of Italian cooking and is perfect for any occasion, from casual dinners to gatherings with friends and family.

Ingredients

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade, about 12 inches)
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce (preferably San Marzano)
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 6–8 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough

Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat. Roll out the pizza dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness. Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone.

  2. Add the Toppings

Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Arrange the mozzarella slices on top of the sauce. Sprinkle a pinch of salt over the pizza.

  3. Bake the Pizza

Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling and slightly browned.

  4. Add Fresh Basil and Serve

Remove the pizza from the oven and immediately scatter the fresh basil leaves on top. Drizzle with extra-virgin olive oil. Slice and serve hot.

Serving

Pizza Margherita pairs wonderfully with a light salad, a glass of Italian red wine, or simply on its own. Enjoy the simplicity and elegance of this classic Italian favorite, a dish that highlights fresh ingredients and authentic flavors.
