Ingredients
- 8 sheets of brik pastry (or filo pastry as a substitute)
- 4 large eggs
- 1/2 cup tuna (canned, drained)
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 tablespoon capers (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
- Lemon wedges for serving
Instructions
Prepare the Filling
- In a small bowl, combine tuna, chopped parsley, capers (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix well to create a flavorful filling.
Assemble the Brik
- Place a sheet of brik pastry on a clean surface. Carefully place a spoonful of the tuna mixture near the center.
- Make a small well in the filling and gently crack an egg into it.
- Fold the pastry over to form a triangle or half-moon shape, ensuring the edges are sealed to prevent leaking during frying.
Fry the Brik
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet over medium heat.
- Carefully slide the assembled brik into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 2–3 minutes per side.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain on paper towels.
Serve
- Serve hot with lemon wedges on the side for a fresh, zesty finish.
Serving
Brik is traditionally enjoyed as an appetizer or snack, often accompanied by a light salad or olives. The crisp pastry and savory filling create a satisfying contrast that makes Brik a beloved dish in Tunisian cuisine.
